RNS: Major Project for West Midlands Police

Thursday, 28 October 2021

Further to its interim results announcement of 13 July 2021, Synectics plc (AIM: SNX), a leader in the design, integration and support of advanced security and surveillance systems, announces that it has completed the first phase of a project worth in excess of £1.5 million for West Midlands Police to equip its new Event Control Suite with a comprehensive video management solution ahead of the Commonwealth Games which is being held in the region next year.

The solution, based on Synectics’ Synergy command and control software platform, will eventually integrate video feeds from thousands of cameras through disparate systems at over thirty sites, which include local authorities, sporting venues, transport hubs and retail centres, into a single management platform; improving operational efficiency and situational awareness across the region.

Synectics’ Security division has been working closely with West Midlands Police throughout the design and delivery phase and will continue to develop the control room solution into the Company’s next financial year, as well as providing ongoing support and maintenance.

The new state-of-the-art Event Control Suite will be fully operational later this year. As well as being the base for all operational co-ordination for the Commonwealth Games in 2022, the site will also be the future Force Control Centre and command suite for the co-ordination and control of major incidents and events in the West Midlands in the coming years.

Colin Holder, CCTV Manager for West Midlands Police, commented: "We engaged with Synectics’ Security division to help us design and deliver this innovative project. Our selection and deployment of the Synergy platform will underpin both the current project aims and provide a reliable, secure and scalable solution for the future.

This new Event Control Suite will provide the world class facilities we need to deliver a safe and successful event for the region.”

Paul Webb, Chief Executive of Synectics, added: "We are delighted that West Midlands Police has chosen to work with Synectics on this project, recognising the deep market knowledge, as well as the design and delivery capability, of our Security division.

The ability of our Synergy platform to provide deep integration to legacy systems provides a seamless, cost-effective and future-proof way for operators and agencies to implement a modern command and control platform without the need to replace existing systems.

Synectics’ Synergy platform has been successfully deployed at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the London Stadium for a number of years, and, more recently, was selected by City of London Police for its central control room as part of the City’s Secure City Programme.”
